Career talks

This week we all had a career talk with our guidance councilors. Each TY had 15 minute meetings with their guidance councilor. We talked about what subjects we were considering picking for 5th year and what careers we had in mind when finishing school. I was quite indecisive before I had the meeting but after it , it helped me to come to an understanding of what subject I would like to pick.

Religion Drama

Since the beginning of the year our class have been working on two separate dramas in Religion. Half of the class made a play based on homelessness. Our drama was based on war. Roisin wrote our drama from scratch with help from all of the group. Today we went to Mullingar to preform our drama in the Briary Gap competition. We arrived early at the venue. Luckily we had time to practise in our dressing room before we got on stage. When we arrived at the venue some boys from another school brought out props to our dressing room for us , whilst a member of staff showed us around. He showed us the stage and our dressing room. We were all so nervous before the performance. We went to McDonalds and visited the Joe Dolan's memorial statue. I loved seeing the statue because my Granny loved Joe Dolan and never stopped talking about him! She still does! After we visited the statue we went back to the dressing rooms and rehearsed one more time before the show! When it was our time to shine I felt knots in my stomach but once I was on stage I loved it! Our dramas were such fun to preform and we all thoroughly enjoyed the day. On the way home we stopped off in the sweet shop and got tons of sweets! A week later Mrs.G had received the results unfortunately our drama didn't get through but as luck would have it the homelessness play got through. We were delighted to have gotten one our dramas through to the next round and I wish them all the best! Good luck girls!

Art

In art Mrs.O'S decided to do portraits with us. Each person had to choose a famous person they liked. I chose Victoria Justice from Victorious. Instead of drawing any old portrait she decided to let us make cassette tape portraits. At first I thought it would be a disaster as I felt I couldn't even draw a stick man let alone a portrait! Mrs.O'S proved us all wrong as she got us to draw a horse. At first we didn't know what it was and she made us cover the picture and reveal a little bit of the picture at a time. This was so that we could draw the shapes not the actual object we thought it was. By the end of the class everyone
had drawn a brilliant horse! Hopefully our portraits
will turn out just as well as our horses!

Mini Company

Today was the big day! Today we had to present our Mini Company products to all of the TY year and the judges. The 14 mini companies from our school set up their stands in the hall displaying their products. In the morning the judges arrived and had a quick glimpse at all of the products. Each company went up in the middle of the hall and presented their product to the judges. The judges seemed very interested in our App and liked the idea that it was to do with sports. At the end of the presentations the judges presented 3 trophies to each class. Sportscope (our mini company) got the best report award. Unfortunately we didn't get through to go further in the competion but we sure did learn a lot along the way. Two groups from our school did get through though! Good luck to William's Words and Hair Couture in the next stage of the competition.

Young Scientist

On the 10th of January all TY's went to the BT Young Scientist Exhibition. Our school was lucky as to get one group into the Young Scientist. Corrie , Lauren and Aisling qualified to have their project displayed at Young Scientist. Their project was '"The Effects of Schoolbags on your Back, Neck and Spine". At the YS I saw so many different projects each was so different but so good. You could tell that a lot of effort went into each and every one.

F1 in schools

For Tech our teacher decided it would be a good idea for us all to enter the F1 in schools competition. We all split into groups of 5 and had to design our own f1 car. On my Projects page there is a slideshow of our entry. Our car was called Crescendo. Sadly we didn't get through to the next stage but luckily two groups from our school did. Rapido y Furioso and Team Petrolic.
